Among the Mushrooms is an editorial redesign of the classic text by Ellen M. Dallas and Caroline A. Burgin, created to celebrate the beauty of scientific illustration through contemporary book design. Guided by classical typographic principles and the golden ratio, the project balances historical content with a refined, modern reading experience.
The visual identity is anchored by a hand-drawn mushroom illustration on the cover, paired with a bold red mushroom motif that continues throughout the interior spreads. A restrained red and cream palette emphasizes texture, contrast, and form, while a structured grid, thoughtful typography, and generous negative space create a calm, immersive reading experience that honors the book's educational origins with a contemporary visual language.
